Anasi and the Clay Pot Story Adaptation
In the original fable, a spider named Anansi is gifted all the knowledge in the world in the form of a clay pot. Selfishly, he attempts to keep the pot for himself. While trying to conceal the pot, his son points out the inefficiency of his plan. In a fit of rage, Anansi then throws the pot, destroying it, inadvertently sharing this knowledge with the world.
This adaptation of the story focuses on these ideas of greed and ego. Anansi, now named Avarichnid, is a wealthy business owner. Avarichnid exploits his employees, only caring about his own personal gain. One day the workers finally get fed up with their horrid working conditions. They attempt to rebel but are scared back into place by the overpowering boss. But the more Avarichnid uses fear and misinformation to manipulate his workers, the workers are pushed to find their own liberation.

Once I had my story, I had to develop my character. I started with 3 variations of the character. I decided to go with the humanoid character design so I gathered some references and nailed down the character's personality. From there I continued to build the character through turnarounds, facial expressions, action poses, and wardrobe.
With my character completed, it was time to move on to environments. Here is where I created the location where most of the story would play out. I once again created 3 options and decided to go with the factory interior. I then fleshed out this environment by drawing it in different angles, lighting, camera focuses, and color palettes with an additional prop sheet.

Finally, I completed the project with an accompanying animatic.
